this semester, i’m teaching a film studies class on horror films for first year students, and for this week’s movie viewing we had the class over to our house for a movie night pizza party. every time i drive up mass ave towards harvard square, i look longingly at stone hearth pizza, so i ordered a few delivery pies from there. the menu was great – they have tons of toppings and sauces and the choice of whole wheat or gluten free crust. after much deliberation, we decided to get one four cheese, one margherita on wheat crust, one half-mushroom, half pepperoni, and one goat cheese, pesto, and basil on wheat. while stone hearth’s pizzas certainly didn’t rival my homemade butternut squash pizza, it was by far the best delivery i’ve had in the area.

for desert, i wanted to branch out from my usual cookies and make something chocolatey and easy for everyone to snack on during the movie, so i found a recipe for banana bread brownie bites. i followed the recipe precisely, and against all odds of their potential tastiness, they ended up being pretty dry and shockingly tasteless. i dusted them with powdered sugar and coconut flakes, but they couldn’t be salvaged and i was more than a little embarrassed as i tried to convince my students that i really truly was a good baker. always a bad sign when there’s leftovers and i’m not even a little bit tempted to eat them for breakfast the next morning…
